We refer to Mr. John Cardwell, the well-known farmer. Before and after settling at Mitta Mitta, about 50 years ago, Mr. Cardwell was engaged in the carrying trade, from Melbourne to Yackandandah, and afterwards between Wodonga and Mitta Mitta. Earlier again he was mining in the Yackandandah district. He had been ailing for some years, and his death, from breaking-up of the system, was not unexpected. He was a native of the North of Ireland, and was a brother of Mr. Robert Cardwell, of Tallangatta. He leaves a widow (his second wife) and grown family of three sons and five daughters. The sons are Messrs. Alick, Thomas and Ernest Cardwell. The daughters are Mrs. John Courtney, Mrs. Wm. Courtney, Mrs. Laffan (Chiltern), and the Misses Annie and Tillie Cardwell. The family connections in the Mitta district are very numerous. Tho interment took place in Mitta Mitta Cemetery on Friday, the funeral being a large one. The Methodist
   burial service was read by Mr. Joshua Courtney.
