[S23] TROVE, Clarence and Richmond Examiner (Grafton, NSW : 1889 - 1915) Thu 5 Dec 1912, One of the real old links of early Lismore was severed last Friday, when Mrs. Catherine Daly died at Mosman's Bay at the age of eighty-six. Mrs. Daly came to the Richmond about forty-five years ago, with seven young children, one of them an infant. She had just lost her husband and one may imagine what the widow had to face in those primeval days. Her best and earliest friend was Mr. E. Howell, at that time a widower. Mr. Howell a little later married Mrs. Daly's eldest daughter, and they both survive her. For many years she followed the profession of a midwife and the cottage where she lived still, stands in Keen-street, near Doctor Gaggius', and is, perhaps, the oldest building in Lismore. When the Lismore Hospital was erected some twenty-eight years ago, (it was then a small cottage, surrounded by foxtail, where there is now a fashionable suburb). Mrs. Daly was appointed its first matron. The old lady was one of the Geraghty family, who at one time comprised half the population of old Lismore, and who are noted for longevity. Her mother died only a few years back, considerably over ninety years old.
