PEARCE, MOONAH - HOBART, Sunday. - All branches of racing activity were represented at the funeral to-day of Mr. James Bradley Pearce, who died at his residence,. 13 Florence-street, Moonah, on Friday, at the age of 87 years. Rev. C. H. Corvan officiated at the graveside when. the interment took place at Cornelian Bay Cemetery. There were many beautiful floral tributes. Mr. Pearce was one of the most popular and best-known racing identitles in Tasmania. He was born at Hobart in September, 1850, of English parents, and was apprenticed to the blacksmithing trade, and followed that calling for many years, during which time he was a licensed horsetrainer as
well. Taking up his abode at Green Ponds, or Kempton, as it now is known, he carried on his profession for many years, and attended race meetings in all parts of the state. After many years at Green Ponds as a trainer, he transferred to Tunbridge, where he prepared that first-class hurdleracer Gudda, also Goodwood, Little Mac, Erebus, Mauser. and others, all of whom were successful. Little Mac won a hurdle race at Sorell one day, and came out later in the afternoon to down such smart sprinters as Carlos and The Peer in the Flying Handicap. In 1903 Mr. Pearce moved to Moonah, and among the better-known horses prepared by him in the south were Rondelette, The Lyre, Master Alwyne, CzUaranus, and Jack, with whom he won a Deloraine Grand NationalI Steeple. Mr. Pearce was married twice, Ihere having been seven children of the first union and eight of the second, and two of each family were licensed horsemen. Messrs. Matt and Angelo Pearce were the elder members of the family who followed that calling, the others being Messrs. Vivian and Allan Pearce.
Mr. Matt Pearce is clerk of the course of the Southern Tasmanian Trotting Club.

- [S23] TROVE, Launceston Examiner 27 June 1922, Death of Mr. Pearce --- Newly-Elected Franklin Member --- HOBART, Monday. Mr. William Warburton Frederick Pearce, M.H.A., died at a private hospital early this morning after an illness of only a couple of weeks. He had been a resident of Bridgewater for many years, and for some time past had taken a keen interest in public affairs. During the period in which he had been a member of the Brighton Municipal Council he earned the reputation of being a zealous and painstaking councillor, and in consequence was held in the highest esteem. Mr. Pearce also identified himself with the Labour movement, and in 1919 was one of the endorsed candidates for Franklin, but was unsuccessful. He did a lot of campaigning since then, and at the last election secured the second Labour seat for that constituency. Apparently the strenuous campaigning in which he participated undermined his strength, as he became ill on the eve of the election, and thereafter hie condition became gradually worse. Mr. Pearce held temperate views on political questions, and was regarded as a moderate Labourite, and the way in which he polled indicated that he was supported largely by small farmers particularly in and around the Bridgewater and New Norfolk districts. He leaves a wife and a married daughter.
