It will be learned with general sorrow that Mr. George Turnbull of Winninburn, passed away at twenty minutes past eight o'clock this morning. For a considerable time Mr Turnbull's health had been below normal, and during the past year or two he had become an almost constant sufferer. A few weeks back it was deemed wisest to place him under special medical and nursing care, and he was removed to Hamilton for that purpose. A further and closer study of his condition there made it evident that his case was beyond recovery, and during the past week his sinking became perceptibly rapid. Mr. Turnbull was a son of the late Mr. Adam Turnbull, and grandson of the late Dr. Adam Turnbull, all of Winninburn association. For a period in his young days deceased was on the staff of the National Bank, but subsequently took to the vocation of his fathers. As much that pertained to Winninburn in its earlier history was more or less connected with the public life of the district, Mr. Turnbull became linked with several institutions that were for the public advancement. He was at one time a particularly active worker at St. Andrew's Church and Sunday School, but in his latter years his ill-health had deprived him of participation in any of the organisations in which he was heartily interested. His name was a synonym for integrity, and the memory of such a man should remain as an influence for good. Mr.Turnbull, who left a widow and son, would have been 60 years of age in January next.
