- [S23] TROVE, Burnie Advocate 19 July 1929, Old Resident Passes. -- The death occurred on Wednesday evening of Mrs. Fanny Johnson, aged 89 years, one of the oldest residents of the town. She was the wife of Mr. W. Johnson, and leaves a family of three--Mr. Edley Johnson, Sherwood, Mr. Phillip Johnson and Mrs. Newell, Victoria. The late Mrs. Johnson was born at Woolnorth in 1840, and was the daughter of the late Mr. John Elmer, of High Plains, Deloraine, who came to Tasmania from England in 1817 in the interests of the V.D.L. Co. Early in life she came to Latrobe, and married 62 years ago. She was very well known and respected throughout the district, and there is general regret at her death. Her husband, Mr. W. Johnson, is the oldest resident of Latrobe, his family being amongst the pioneers of the district. The funeral will take place at the Church of England cemetery this afternoon, the cortege leaving her late residence, James street, at 3 o'clock.

- [S23] TROVE, Advocate (Burnie, Tas. : 1890 - 1954) Mon 18 Apr 1932, OBITUARY. Mr. W. Johnson, Latrobe. The death occurred at the Devon Hospital on Saturday evening of Mr. William Johnson, an old and respected resident of Latrobe. Mr. Johnson was born at "Frogmore" 82 years ago, and had been a resident of the Latrobe district all his life. In the early days he conducted the first two hotels in the district. The first was on the Native Plains road, a chimney and stone foundations still remaining. Mr. Johnson also kept a hotel at Sherwood. His passing severs the last link with the early life of the town, the history of which he could give in a remarkably clear manner. His wife, who was Miss Fanny Elmer, predeceased him two years ago. He leaves two sons, Messrs. Eardley and Phillip, who live at Sherwood, Latrobe. The funeral will take place to-day, leaving the Devon Hospital at 2.45 for St. Luke's cemetery.
