- [S23] TROVE, The Capricornian (Rockhampton) 12 July 1928, MR. W. M PARTINGTON. -- Mr. P. Partington has been advised of the death of his brother, Mr. W. M. Partington, in Sydney. Born in Tasmania, the deceased was very prominently associated with brass bands throughout the Commonwealth and New Zealand and held the finest Australian record for any Australian-born conductor. In his younger days he visited America and England and was favourably known as Australia's champion euphonium player, competing six times at Ballarat, Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart, and elsewhere without being beaten once. For several years he was bandmaster of the Rockhampton City Concert Band and took the band to the Ballarat competitions. Although it did not carry the championship, this band secured the highest aggregate of points. Mr. W. M. Partington organised the Australian Imperial Band, but owing to financial difficulties the band did not get beyond Fremantle. The Australian Imperial Band, however, toured all the States and Tasmania. At the time of his death, Mr. W. M. Partington was band-master of the Bondi Beach Band, Sydney. The deceased was the eldest of five brothers, who won Commonwealth or State championships. Mr. P. Partington, of Rockhampton, is well known in brass band circles. Mr. Harold Partington is in charge of Hoyt's Theatre, Western Australia. A brother, Mr. James Partington, was killed at the war, losing his life at Pozieres. Another brother, Mr. Preston Partington, won the championship of New South Wales as a baritone player. The deepest sympathy of many friends will be extended to the brothers in their very sad loss.
