(By Mavis),
TOLSON— HOLBROOK.
Considerable interest was centred in the wedding of Miss Holbrook, eldest daughter of Mr Holbrook, Zeehan, and Mr A. Tolson, son of Mr Tolson, which was celebrated at the Wesleyan Church on Monday, November 18, in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends. As both bride and bridegroom are well- known in social circles, there was an unusually large attendance of onlookers, who filled the church to its utmost capacity, while numbers had to content themselves with standing room only outside. As the bridal party entered the church Mr Lammerton played a bridal march, and immediately before the ceremony the choir sang 'The voice that breathed o'er Eden.' The Rev. Ditterich officiated. The bride, who, in the absence of her father, was given away by Mr Barlen, wore a beautiful gown of white broche silk, the bodice being finely tucked to simulate a pointed bolero, transparent yoke and collar, a spray of orange blossoms completing the corsage. The skirt was tucked lengthwise around the top, and beside the front panel, from whence two tucked flounces continued around the skirt beaded by broad bands of cream cluney lace threaded with satin ribbon, which also outlined the arrangement of tucks ; the long embroidered veil was worn over the coronet of orange blossoms. A large shower bouquet of white flowers, with satin bows and streamers, and long trails reaching the hem of the skirt, completed a charming tout ensemble. This, with a diamond and ruby ring, was the bridegroom's gift. She was attended by two bridesmaids— Miss M. Holbrook (her sister) and Miss M, Tolson (sister of the bridegroom)— who wore extremely becoming gowns of lemon, colored silk, the bodice completely tucked in lattice fashion, bloused all round to attain the Ruesain effect, and finished at the neck with rows of pearls. A fichu of lemon-colored chiffon was draped around the shoulders and held at the left side by a spray of cream and red roses. The skirts were tucked at the top to correspond with the bodices, and finished at the foot with tucked frills. Hats were worn of lemon-colored crinoline draped with chiffon, and having trails of red and cream roses, with foliage at the side where the brim drooped towards the back. They carried bouquets of red and cream roses, and wore diamond and opal brooches, the gift of the bridegroom. The bridegroom was attended by Mr W. Holbrook (brother of the bride) and Mr A. Lumsden. The ' Wedding March' was played by Miss Wesley as the bridal party left the Church, to meet with the inevitable deluge of rice, A very large number were present at the wedding breakfast, which was given at the residence of the bride's parents, Wilson street. The decorations, which were extremely pretty, were arranged by the friends of the bride. Wild lillies and foliage were suspended in artistic trails from the ceiling above the table to each side and end, where they were prettily intermingled with folds of soft green silk. Altogether the wedding was an extremely pretty one. After the breakfast the happy couple left by the mid-day train for Burnie, a large number of friends accompanying them to the station to bestow upon them a parting blessing. In the evening again a large number of friends were entertained at the residence of the bride's parents. The bride's travelling dress was of fawn Henrietta cloth, the skirt tucked throughout, except the front panel, from whence two circular flounces, with bands of stitched violet glace silk, extended around either side; the bodice had a vest of white embroidered chiffon, which also finished the sleeves, in full puff at the wrist, and very prettily-shaped collar, with bands of stitched glace and gold trimming. With this was worn a hat fully trimmed with white chiffon and violets, with trail of autumn leaves turned fully off the face. The following presents were received :— Bride to bridegroom, gold studs and sleeve-links; Miss M, Holbrook, pair Egyptian statuary; Mr W. Holbrook, overmantel; Mr and Mrs W. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr. Arthur Tolson, wore a slightly trained gown of ivory crepe de chene, the skirt having a vandyke of narrow frills edged with Malines lace. The bodice was made with bolero, bordered with ivory silk applique, and showing a vest of Bruges lace. A wide folded belt was added, and a spray of orange blossom finished the corsage. A tulle veil, handsomely embroidered, was worn over a coronet of orange blossom. The bride carried a bouquet of water lilies, bouvardia, and asparagus fern tied with white silk ribbon. The Misses Trix and Pearl Tolson (sisters of bride), and Flo Morey (sister of bridegroom) were bridesmaids. They wore frocks of white broderie Anglais, with Valenciennes insertion on the skirts, and the bodices made with lace yoke and elbow sleeves with narrow, lace-edged frills at the elbow. Their hats were of muslin, with lace and rosettes of white chiffon on the bandeau at the back. They carried bouquets of white sweet pea, roses, and bouvardia, with maiden-hair fern and narrow white ribbon streamers. These, with a gold cable bangle to the first bridesmaid, and jewelled brooch to the other, were gifts from the bridegroom. Mr. W. V. Tolson (brother of bride) and Mr. E. Ford (Triabunna) were best man and groomsman. After the ceremony Mrs. Tolson entertained the bridal party at luncheon, the decorations being of roses, sweet pea, bouvardia, and grasses, with eau-de-nil ribbons from the electrolier to the corners of the T-shaped table. Mr. and Mrs. Morey left for Hobart en route to New Zealand for a few weeks. Mrs. Morey travelled in a gown of Wedgwood blue crepoline, with Paris lace vest and garniture of pompadour ribbons and cerise straw hat, with pink roses and white osprey. The bride gave the bridegroom a travelling rug and the bridegroom presented the bride with a set of silver brushes, mirror, and comb on a silver tray. The officials at the Telephone Exchange gave the bride a pair of handsome cut-glass flower holders, set in silver stands, and a silver cold-water jug.
