- [S23] TROVE, Cootamundra Herald (NSW : 1877 - 1954) Tue 3 Jan 1911, SHOCKING DOUBLE FATALITY NEAR BREADALBANE. - A shocking railway accident occurred near Breadalbane on Sunday morning, resulting in the death of Messrs. Patrick Horan, of Goulburn, and Richard Flood, of Breadalbane. It appears the two men were on a tricycle coming from Cullarin side, when they, hit head-on a special goods train and were killed instantly. Terrible injuries were inflicted on both men, the bodies being fearfully cut about, and especially was this so in Flood's case. Needless to say the scene, which was a few hundred yards from the Breadalbane platform was a ghastly one. The tricycle was destroyed completely. Horan's watch had stopped at 3.33 and Flood's at 2:30. The coroner, Mr. H. O'Brien, went to Breadalbane the same day and gave order for burial the bodies being then brought on to Goulburn. The inquest will be held at Goulburn to-morrow. Mr. Horan, who was 59 years of age was a widower, and leaves eight children, the youngest being 14 years of age. He was a fettler on the railway, while Mr. Flood, who was unmarried, was employed at the Breadalbane hotel. He was 30 years of age, and it is understood his people live at Wagga. One of Mr. Horan's sons holds a position at the Cootamundra railway station.
