It appears that the unfortunate lady was left in the house cleaning the fireplace, Mr. and Mrs. Eyre, her son in law and daughter, being in the garden at the time. The latter went into the house to tell her mother something, when she discovered her lying across the fire, the flames enveloping her body. She was snatched from the fire only in time to breathe once or twice, when she died. It is supposed she fell into the fire whilst in a fit. The men about the station smelt something burning before going to work, but thought it was some rubbish, little dreaming of the actual state of affairs. Deceased, who was much respected by all who knew her, had been in delicate health for some time.

Afterwards he was appointed to a position in the audit office at Hobart, and remained there for some years until the number was reduced. He then retired on a pension. The latter part of his life was quiet. He was always kind and helpful, and will be missed by a great many societies.
