- [S23] TROVE, Upper Murray and Mitta Herald (Vic. : 1885 - 1955) Thu 26 Feb 1903, Considerable surprise, mingled with regret, was occasioned in Tallangatta on Tuesday morning, when it became known that Mr. John Drummond, of Cravenville, had died the night before. It appears that Mr. Drummond, who had been suffering from asthma and rheumatism for about nine years, had an attack of dysentery and diarrhoea about twelve days ago. He came down to Tallangatta for treatment and was attended by Dr. Young at Mr. Hill’s coffee palace. The bowel and lung complications, however, affected his heart, and on Monday the doctor had little or no hope of the patient's recovery. Death took place at half-past 11 on Monday night. Deceased, who was the eldest son of the late Wm. Drummond, of Eskdale, only a few weeks ago celebrated his 50th birthday. A number of his relatives gathered together at Cravenville for the birthday party, and it is said that several of the party became more or less ill after partaking of some ham which formed part of the bill of fare, and ptomaine poisoning is suggested as having brought on deceased’s intestinal trouble. Mr. Drummond was born in Queanbeyan, N.S.W., and came with his parents to Victoria in 1855. The family resided in Beechworth for about 15 years, afterwards coming on to the Mitta Mitta. (Mr. W. Drummond died at Eskdale about 9 years ago, and his widow died in the same place 18 months ago.). Deceased was married at Mitta Mitta some 24 years ago. He had a farm near Tallangatta for several years,, and about 10 years ago took the Cravenville Hotel, where he resided ever since. He leaves a widow and family of seven—four boys and three girls, the youngest being 7 years of age. The family has received many expressions of public sympathy in their sudden bereavement. The remains were interred in the Tallangatta cemetery on Tuesday. The hearse was preceded by over 20 members of the Loyal Tatouga Lodge of Oddfellows, to which fraternity deceased was attached; and there was a numerous following of relatives, friends and sympathisers. The Presbyterian burial service was read by Rev. W. H. Steele, M.A., while Bro. Hill delivered the funeral address of the Oddfellows. The undertaking arrangements, were carried out by Mr. J. Brown.

- [S23] TROVE, The Albury Banner and Wodonga Express (NSW : 1871 - 1938) Fri 22 May 1931, Obituary. — The death has taken place at the Tallangatta Hospital of Mr. David Drummond, another pioneer of the Eskdale district, at the age of 69. Mr. Drummond, who had been ailing for the past three or four years, entered the hospital about a month ago. The death of his wife seven weeks ago, which was a great shock to him, undoubtedly helped to hasten his death. The late Mr. Drummond was born at Wooragee 69 years ago, and when nine years of age came to Noorongong with his father, where he had selected land. In 1877, with his family, he moved to the present homestead, and later set out as a general carrier with a bullock waggon, carting wool, etc., from Mahonga, Walbundrie and Urangeline stations to Wodonga. He was also the first contractor to take the first mining machinery into the Zulu Creek, a feat which is still talked about, and also carted machinery into the Morning Star mine, Green 's Creek, which was another difficult job. Of late years Mr. Drummond took up farming, and it was his initiative and foresight that helped to establish the dairying industry in the Mitta Mitta Valley. He is survived by a grown up family of two sons and two daughters, Messrs. Ernest (late A. I. F.) and Edward, and Mesdames Dewar and Davies. His remains were interred in the Mitta Mitta cemetery, the funeral being one of the largest and most representative seen in the district, many floral tributes being placed upon the grave. The Presbyterian burial service was read at the graveside by the Rev. W. T. Alexander.
