- [S23] TROVE, Upper Murray and Mitta Herald, Thursday, November 16, 1950, Widespread regret was expressed in the Mitta Valley when it became known that Mrs George Lord, of Eskdale, had passed away in the Mercy Hospital, Melbourne. On the 26th September, Mrs Lord met with an accident at her home. On being brought by ambulance to Tallangata Hospital it was that she had fractured her hip. Later she was conveyed to Mercy Hospital, where an operation was performed. The patient appeared to make good progress, but alarming symptoms set in and she passed away. Deceased, who was aged 74 years, was a daughter of the late John Hargreaves and in 1912 married Mr George Lord at Eskdale, where she resided ever since. Mrs Lord was a wonderful helpmate, kind hearted, a good neighbour and with her breezy nature, made many friends. She is survived by her husband, two sons (Tom and George) and two daughters (Jane, Mrs Ellicott), and Isobel (Mrs Turner, Wangaratta). Messrs Jack and James Hargreaves, of Wangaratta, are brothers, and sisters are Mrs M. Carter, Melbourne, and Mrs Syd Lord, Sydney. The remains were brought to Eskdale and after a short service in the Union Church, were interred in Mitta Mitta cemetery, the funeral cortege being one of the largest seen in many years.
